ปัจจุบันในอเมริกา  เด็กๆ จะฉลองเทศกาลนี้โดยการแต่งตัวหลากหลาย   ให้น่ากลัวเหมือนผี  แม่มด  หรือยักษ์ประหลาด  และไปร้องเพลงหรือขอขนมตามบ้าน  โดยเด็ก ๆ  จะไปเคาะตามประตูบ้านข้างเคียง และเมื่อเจ้าของบ้าน มาเปิดประตูเขาก็จะตะโกนว่าจะให้เล่นหรือจะให้ขนม ในสมัยโบราณมีการกล่าวขานกันว่าถ้าเด็กๆ  ไม่ได้ขนมล่ะก็  เขาจะแกล้งเจ้าของบ้าน เช่นใส่ไข่ดิบในตู้จดหมาย ในคืนเทศกาล ฮาโลวีน คนส่วนใหญ่จะมีขนม เช่นลูกกวาด  ข้าวโพดคั่ว  หรือผลไม้ เตรียมไว้ให้เด็กๆ เพื่อจะไม่ต้องโดนผี(เด็กๆ)หลอก

        สัญลักษณ์ของเทศกาลฮาโลวีน  คือ  แจ็ค  โอแลนเทิร์น หรือโคมไฟ ซึ่งเป็นผลฟักทองที่คว้านไส้ ออกมาแล้ว  และเจาะผลเป็นรูปหน้าตา  แล้วก็เอาเทียนวางไว้ข้างในผลตรงกลางเพื่อที่ไฟจากแสงเทียนจะได้ส่อง ผ่านช่องที่ตัดไว้เป็นตา จมูก  ปากและหน้า

        Today, in America, children celebrate Halloween by dressing up in costumes, often scary  ones  like  ghosts, witches  and  monsters, and  go  trick - or - treating.   When trick - or - treating,  the  children  knock  on  the  doors of  neighboring  houses, and  when the owner  answers,  they  say " trick  or  treat! "  This is  an   old   saying   which   means that  if  they  are  not  given  a  treat,  they  will  play  a  mean  trick  on  the  owner,   such as putting  raw  eggs  in  his  mailbox.  However, on Halloween night, most people have Treats -- candy, popcorn, or fruit -- ready for the children, so the children usually don't play tricks.

        A  symbol   of   Halloween   is  the   jack  o'lantern, a  pumpkin  that  is  hollowed  out  and  has  a  face  carved  on  it.   A  candle  is  put  in  the  hollow,  so  that  the  light shines  through  the  holes  cut  for  the  eyes,  nose  and  mouth  of  the  face.
